Spending less than £15m on players seems like the smart way of doing things. You can still sign quality players who can go on to do well and make a good profit once sold on whilst if they flop then you're not losing too much on them. There are good players out there for a decent price but it depends on how good your recruitment/scouting is.
At Southamption, we spent far too much on expensive flops who we could barely give away (Carrillo, Lemina, Hoedt, Boufal) which essentially wasted all the Van Dijk money. I'd like to think our recruitment is going to improve again and the last year has seemed better (Walker-Peters, Diallo, and Salisu all seem very promising). It would be nice if our youth players got to a similar level to those from the past.
